Twinsen's Odyssey

This is not my game, but I needed to host it here, because nobody else had been making the best version of it available!

Twinsen's Odyssey is a game that's incredibly dear to my heart. It's one of my favorite, if not my all-time favorite game. It's a cinematic masterpiece of ambiance and atmosphere. Its realtime environments and minimal use of music are so emotionally impactful, it's easy to overlook the clumsy outdated look of its prerendered cutscenes.

The game is an open-world adventure with puzzles and combat sprinkled throughout. It may sound a bit like Zelda, but it plays completely different. To this day, it's in a class all to its own.

Want to play? Make sure you play the best version!! GOG and Steam are offering emulated versions for purchase, but they are only offering LBA2 (European version), not Twinsen's Odyssey, (American version). For the American version, they took a second pass at the sound design, and made some small changes that vastly increased the emotional impact of the game. Music is used sparingly (instead of constantly), fading to ambiance, making the game much more ambient and atmospheric.

Don't believe me? Check out this video I recorded:

I rescued Twinsen's Odyssey off of a CD I had, and I'm hoping people will help me preserve it by downloading. It would be a sin if the best version of the best game is lost to the sands of time.

Instructions for getting Twinsen's Odyssey

Far be it from me to encourage piracy. Therefore I have encrypted the ZIP archive in the download. You need a password, which can only be obtained if you have a legitimate copy. Here are the steps:

1.) Make sure to support the rights holders who won't let anyone make a sequel. Go to GOG or Steam and buy LBA2.

2.) Go into the game's files. There should be only one file in the directory that starts with H. The name of this file (in ALL CAPS without the extension) is the password for my archive.

3.) Download my Twinsen's Odyssey archive from the link up top, and use the password you found to extract it. You don't have to subscribe to my newsletter, but you might want to; I plan on making a high quality Twinsen fan game at some point in my life, so if you subscribe to my newsletter or follow my Twitter, you'd eventually get news of it.

Congrats! You can play Twinsen's Odyssey by clicking Launch Twinsen's Odyssey. Enjoy the vastly better sound design :)

While you're here, why not check out my games? Twinsen's Odyssey made me love isometric viewpoints, and (along with Knytt) was a huge influence on how I approach ambiance in games, so you might find something you like. Most of it's freeware. sᴀɴᴛᴀ, Mango Blue, and Isopark are probably the games LBA inspired the most.
